Two Months

This post is about 3 weeks late but hey better late than never right?

Our sweet Ruby is now 2 whole months old! Last month I was a little bit sad at fast this is all going, and I know I will still miss those teeny tiny newborn cuddles, however she is turning into a little person and it's just so cool to get to know her. It makes me so excited to see her grow up.

Here are some Ruby facts:

She loves to be swaddled but when she decides it's time to get up she can bust out of that swaddle like it's nothing. There have been many mornings that I've gone in and her swaddle is not only undone but she has kicked it completely off of her.

She is pretty consistent with her schedule. Right now we are doing on demand feedings (she calls the shots) and she definitely has a clear pattern of what she likes. It is nice though because I almost always know what is wrong or what she wants if she starts crying.

She is a sleeper! She is going a solid six hours at least every night and then usually like four more after that. During the day she takes a couple of 2-3 hour naps. I am SO very thankful for what a good sleeper she is, it really makes such a difference that I can get some good sleep at night and a little bit of downtime during the day to get stuff done.

She loves to get out of the house. Especially stores where she is just chilling out in her car seat and can just look around. Her eyes are usually just really big and you can tell she is just trying to take it all in. She always takes really good long naps after we go out too.

She loves music. She has a couple of musical toys that she just lights up when they are playing. Also I sing to her a lot and she seems to really like that too. Sometimes she will even coo along with me, this is pretty much my favorite thing in the entire world.

She is smiling! Since she was born I've been talking about how much I wanted to see her smile and now she is. I'm kind of obsessed with seeing that sweet gummy smile. I just can't get enough of it. I spent a good part of the morning trying to get a good picture of it, every time I would put the camera down she would smile really big, it was a game to her. Tricky girl.

Her hair shows no sign of falling out or changing color, it is still beautifully red and refuses to go anything but stick straight up. I just love it.

Thanksgiving 2011

We made the journey up to Tulsa for Thanksgiving. We weren't really sure how the drive was going to be but it was great. I mean, it did take us 12 hours what normally takes 8 but we made it there! It was so nice to just lay around and be with family and introduce Ruby to some of my favorite people. And of course my parents were excited since they hadn't seen her since she was 1 week old.

She got lots and lots of loving from Grandma and PawPaw!

Got to meet her uber cool Uncle Brian for the first time.

It was a good trip and despite the long drive I'm already looking forward to making it again!

From creepy to cute

What do you do when your husband decides to make himself look like a serial killer a week before you take your holiday pictures? Why photoshop a new head on him of course!

Ewwww

Awwwww

And yes, his head may be a little too large for his body but it is still better than the moustache and bald head! Yea photoshop!

Happy Birthday Mom

I missed my mom's birthdays. It was yesterday. I knew her birthday was November 20 but it just didn't click in my brain. I'm already pretty absent minded, then add a little bit of sleep deprivation and a little bit of new momma crazy into the mix and well I do dumb stuff, like forget my mom's birthday, or stab a pair of scissors into my hand...

Anyways, it really bothers me that I missed it because I have the best mom. Period. The end. She is simply the best. And it's never about her. And sometimes it should be because if I haven't mentioned it, she is the best.

Growing up I never had to want for anything. Did I have all the latest and greatest toys? No. But did I have a bologna and cheese sandwich cut into a heart shape for lunch every day? Yes. Did I have a mom that was at the very front of the pick-up line every single day my entire school career? I most certainly did. She ate the burnt toast, wore the raggedy house shoes, put her life on hold because she put our family above everything. I remember every once in a while she would take an afternoon or evening and go to a movie or I still don't even know what, but take herself a mom break I suppose. Those would be the strangest feeling days ever. My brother, dad, and I would just kind of putter around the house, it felt like something was off, and it was. She is the center of our family, everyone turns to her with their wants, needs, good news, bad news. Heck I'm nearly 30 years old and when I am sick I still call her.

She is the most caring person I know, the best listener, so protective of people she loves, the best cook ever, so silly and goofy and always laughing, and just all around the most giving and selfless person.

I consider being her daughter one of God's greatest gifts to me. So here's to hoping I can be half the mom she is.

I love you momma!

Why Andy Why?

So every November Andy grows a moustache. Every November I hate it. I get over it though because him and a bunch of guys from work do it to raise money to prostate cancer. Also Andy LOVES moustaches and walks around with his chest a little more puffed out and is all "I'm a real man now". It's funny and kinda cute, but shhh, don't tell him I said so because moustachiod men can't be cute.

A couple of nights ago, in his testosterone-y high, he decided shaving his head would be a good idea. I disagreed but didn't think he would do it. I was wrong.

Gross moustache, but still cute

Threatening me that he would do it. I still thought he was bluffing.

Realizing he just may be bored, sleep deprived, and crazy enough to do it

At this point I couldn't stop laughing and saying "Ewwwwww.....you look SO creepy" Yes, I'm a great wife.

Finished product. Andy loves it, me not to much. It gave us a fun night of entertainment at least.

Dang scissors

Yeah it's not the scissors fault but blaming them is easier than admitting how I dumbly jabbed a pair of scissors (with a lot of force I might add) into my hand trying to open a toy up for Ruby. Smooth move exlax.

So we went to the ER because my hand was completely numb and I couldn't move most of my finger. Kind of scary. So after a morning in the ER and then a few days later I went to a hand surgeon, it has been determined I didn't severe my tendon (my big fear b/c then I would of probably had to have surgery) but I nicked it and have some nerve damage. It's not too painful mostly just annoying. The hand doc said I just had to not put any weight on it for a few weeks. Um yeah that's a tall order for a mom of a newborn. So that weekend Andy had his work cut out for him that weekend but then he had to go to work so we called in for reinforcements...

Thank goodness Annette was able to come down here and help out. I really don't know how we would of made it without her. She even got up with me in the middle of the night to change Ruby's diaper. That's love.

Then when Annette left my BFF Sara and Drew came down to spend the weekend with us. I may or may not have told her before she came down that I wasn't able to change diapers ;) Needless to say they stepped up and were just awesome to help. They even baby-sat one night so Andy and I could go on a date. I love Sara and Drew and am crazy excited they will have their own little one next year!

So it's getting better slowly and I survived yesterday and so far today on my own. I can move my fingers a little bit more each day and hopefully will be back to normal before too long!

Attempting to give a thumbs up!

Happy 29th Birthday to Andy!

Today Andy begins his last year of being a 20 something- next year is the big one! I'm so proud of the man he is and just wanted to take a second to brag on the birthday boy.

I fell in love with Andy a long time ago. I don't know if what I felt 15 years old was love but I knew he was something special. He was different, not in a weird way, okay a little bit in a weird way, but definitely no one else like him. He was both super intense and focused but also really silly and fun loving. And talk about hard working, he was the only 17 year old I knew that had a work beeper because he was assistant manager at Kinkos, regularly working overnight and then coming straight to school. Also, it didn't hurt he drove a crazy nice 1956 Chevy pick up truck that was so loud I could hear when he turned onto our street, yeah, he was crush worthy for sure.

Now let's fast forward about 12 years. Here we are...married, house, kid, the whole dream we use to talk about when we would have our 6 hour phone calls that went well into the night (that undoubtedly ended with "You hang up", "No, you hang up" Gag..). When I stop and think about it I am really living my 16 year old dream. Now getting back to Andy what I want to say is that I am living this life because of sweet Andy and his loving, forgiving, gracious heart. He has supported me in every way possible over this last decade of my life and I don't know where I would be without him. He makes me laugh, think, love, and smile like no one else can. Just when I thought it wasn't possible to admire and care for him any more, our sweet Ruby comes along and to see the love of your life so tender and sweet to the new love of your life. Well it's enough to make you wonder how your heart can contain that kind of joy.

So here's to the best person I know- Edward Andrew Luksys- you are wonderful and I love you a ridiculous amount.
