6 Months!

Half a year! What what! I will spare you the whole "it's going by so fast" thing because I say that all the time. I will say this though, Ruby Ann is one cool little girl. Her little personality is beginning to show and we just laugh all the time. It's been such a fun month. I am so excited about summer and doing some fun stuff. Hopefully she likes water because we definitely plan on visiting the pool across the street and since that's about all you can do and not be miserable these super hot Austin summers we have.

Okay, so let's do our 6 months Ruby facts:

Weight: 15lbs 11oz (45% percentile)
Height: 26 inches (61% percentile) (has grown 2 inches in 2 months!)

She is getting so much better at eating. It was a little hit or miss for a while and I was about to take a solid food hiatus for a week or so since it just seemed to be stressing both of us out and I definitely didn't want that, but all of a sudden she started eating really good. She has now had rice cereal, sweet potatoes, bananas, avocadoes, peas, and has even eaten a couple of cherrios.

She loves music. If she gets fussy or bored I can just turn on some music and a lot of times that will calm her down. This makes me so happy as I am definitely a music person and am looking forward to sharing that with her.

Molly is pretty much her favorite thing in the world. If she is in her bouncer and Molly walks by most of the time she will just stop and open mouthed stare at Molly then bust out a big smile. Molly is still leary of Ruby.

Is so very close to sitting up on her own. She just discovered her feet last week and is pretty mesmorized by them so that really distracts her from trying to sit upright when she can just slump over and play with those oh-so fun feet of hers.

She is a champion roller-over! So much so she pretty much refuses to be on her back, within a few seconds of laying her on her back she will flop on over to her belly. This has force Andy and I to be extra diligent when changing her diapers on her table as she has gotten very close to the edge a few times. Scary!

There is a park right across the street from our house and have swung a couple of times. She loves it! She is still a little small for the swing so we shove the baby carrier behind her to support her upper body and just barely swing her and she squells with laughter. It is pretty much my favorite thing in the world to do right now.

Teething on EVERYTHING. This particular day I left for just a few minutes to switch out the laundry and she had rolled over to the coffee table and was just gnawing up a storm!



We got for walks when the weather is nice, she loves going in her carrier so she can see the world.

Tulsa Visit

Alright, so our third and final visit of this whirlwind of a trip was to my parent's house in Tulsa. We drove up there after Sara's shower to spend the night with them. Again, we tried to cram as much quality time into a short visit as possible.

I'm pretty sure Ruby is going to adore her uber cool Uncle Brian, he is so good with her.

Even Molly loves going up to Tulsa, they have a huge yard she runs all around in and more importantly lots of people to play with her!


Emma was even interested in Ruby, and Ruby was most definitely in Emma.


Then we headed back down to Austin Sunday. For future reference, Spring break traffic + I-35 + 8 hour drive = 11 hours of terribleness. But I can honestly say that even with the awful trip back home it was totally worth it, and that's saying something! Thanks everyone for such a wonderful visit, I miss my Okies so very much!

Sara's Shower

So we left Friday morning from Waxahachie and headed up to Oklahoma City to visit my BFF Sara an for her big baby shower. I was so excited to see her bump and spend some time with her before MacKenzie makes her appearance in a few weeks. Friday night we just hung out and went out to eat some bar-b-que.

I am forever indebted to my mom for helping out as much as she did. I am so grateful for all the work she did to help out with the shower. Then once Ruby got to the party (she came later) my mom was on that girl like white on rice. Grandma hadn't seen her girl in a couple of months so she was ready for some Ruby time!

So the shower was good, Sara got a lot of really cute stuff, we got to celebrate Miss MacKenzie's upcoming arrival, it was a nice little visit. Next we headed up Tulsa....

Waxahachie Visit

We had quite the adventure this past weekend but because I have bajillions of pictures I'm going to break it up. The first stop in our travels was to visit Andy's family in Waxahachie. Ruby's two cousins were there to keep her very entertained. They did a great job playing with her, holding her, and even feeding her!

Weirdness

Last night something happened in the Luksys house that hasn't happened in YEARS.....
We parked my car in the garage! I told Andy it was only slightly less strange to see a working car in our garage than if there were to be one in a our living room. Usually it is packed full of motors, welders, and the dozens of projects Andy has going on to restore his 1965 Nova.



I know it's short lived but nice while it lasted....

San Antonio

So we survived our San Antonio trip. I was nervous about it because we were the only one with a baby going, Ruby can meltdown without her naps, it was going to be icky weather, and she doesn't take a bottle so I would have to find places to nurse along the way. Despite these obstacles we decided to go anyways. I guess our love of disgustingly large food exceeds our practicality. We are just awesome like that.

I'm going to let the pictures tell the story because these definitely speak for themselves. I will just say that pizza was a feast for the senses. The visual on this things was just crazy, you couldn't help but laugh looking at it. Then the smell of all that cheese and pepperoni hits you over the head. It.was.glorious.

Did I let me 5 months old eat pizza? Of course not! Did she bit off a piece and me freak out? Maybe. I think that makes her first real food a 42 inch pizza...making the Luksys name proud.

I love this picture because it shows what her real smile looks like. She scrunches up her nose and smiles and those two little teeth show- melts me every time. I work for that smile a portion of every single day.




We rolled out of Big Lou's and needed to burn off some of that pizza and since we didn't have the time to walk the hundred miles necessary to do that we decided to just walk around San Antonio a bit.

Despite the drizzle and cooler tempatures Ruby was such a trooper. She was just looking all around and even managed to take a little cat nap.

Then we headed to Lulu's! They are famous for both their 3 pound cinamon rolls and their chicken fried steak. We went there for the cinnamon rolls but Jonathan also ordered the chicken fried steak. I knew we were with the right group for this trip when Jonathan ate a chicken fried steak in between a 42 inch pizza and 3 pound cinnamon roll.

To say Ruby got lots of loving on and attention this trip would be an understatement. It is such a gift to not only have such good friends but to have friends that love our baby so much.


So there it is. The day we consumed more calories that any human should be allowed. Did we totally just ruin the past few weeks of super eating healthy? Definitely. But I would say it was totally worth it. I've come to terms that this last bit of pregnancy weight may be sticking around for a little bit and if I get to eat have fun days like this as a result of it then so be it. There won't be any bikini's this summer but I will smile every time I think of Ruby going to town on that pizza crust...

I've got a crush on you

I saw something the other day that got me to thinking about how our perspective changes simply as a result of growing up. Sometimes it feels like I haven't changed much and I'm still and awkward, super shy teenager. I can honestly say the only part of that last sentence that isn't true anymore is that I'm a teenager. Despite that though I can look at certain things and know I have changed....

Let's get to the aforementioned thing that got me thinking...

So fifteen years ago if someone would of asked me who I thought was the dreamiest boy of them all I wouldn't of skipped a beat before gushing about JTT (or if you weren't a young teenagers girl in the early 90's- Jonathan Taylor Thomas).


Let's skip ahead five years later. Again, if asked who I thought was a Hottie McHot Tot, an 18 year Ashley would of said Kevin Richardson. Who you ask? Um the quiet guy from Back Street Boys (10 years later if there is a BSB song on the radio you better believe not only is every word of it being sung along, but usually at the top of my lungs). Looks at that facial hair! Look at those eyebrows! Ick.


So my point is over my preteen and adolescent years there were lots of crushes and boy talk with my girlfriends but my definition of what a cute boy looks like has changed.

These days there is something new that makes my heart go pitter patter. Andy as a dad. He loves his girl so much and wears the heck out of that baby carrier. So if I were to define what I thought attractive was to me today, this would be the essence of it. My dream boat of a husband.
