Update

So my dad is doing better- out of ICU- Woo hoo! I went back up there Thursday-Sunday so I could spend some time with them and try to help out when able. There was definitely progress since I had been there the week before. He will probably be in the hospital for a while but there is progress, he is even doing a little bit of physical therapy. I know it's going to be a long road, but my dad is the crazy maniac who ran a 100 mile race- TWICE! He is the toughest, strongest person I know and I cannot wait till we look back at this whole situation as the little bump in the road that changed us all in a good way.

Here he is running a race through the mud, I wasn't kidding- the man is hard-core...


After spending a little bit of time in the hospital I start to get a little restless. Maybe it's just me and my toddler-like need for constant stimulation, but I cannot sit and read issue after issue of Southern Living, so I've come up for a few hospital games...

"Where's McDreamy?" So in this game we attempt to find lool-alikes for all the cast members from Grey's Anatomy. Found George, Callie, Lexi (dead-tinger for her!), McSteamy (this was the most exciting find for obvious reason ;) ),and Alex. I have high hopes for finding McDreamy at some point..we gotta have goals people...

"How many 65 cents lattes can I drink?" I think this game is self-explanatory, but can you believe I can get a swiss mocha for a mere 65 cents- eat your heart out Starbucks!

"Stink eye" There was one doctor that was rude and short with us, I haven't seen him again but am practicing my best stink eye so I will be prepared to visually say "check yourself before you wreck yourself mister"- and yes it can be hard to portray that with just a look-thus the need to practice...



I just want to reiterate how blessed I am to have all of you in my life. My phone and inbox has just been blowing up the past couple of weeks with so much love and support and it means the world. We went to church Wednesday night and had so many people come up to me and tell me they had been praying. I even had a friend whom I had kinda lost contact with call me and offer to give me a round trip flight to Tulsa- so thoughtful and generous! Seriously, what amazing people I am surrounded by. Thank you. Love you all!

Update on dad

I don't even know where to begin...what a crazy week. I will give you the cliff notes of the past couple of of weeks. As a lot of you know my dad has been sick. It got real bad last week after he had his gallbladder removed and eventually lead to a diagnosis of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Guillain-Barré syndrome is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system. Yea, I know, it sounds bad but he received treatment and is already making progress. He has been is lots of pain but is making lots of progress. He may even get released from ICU today!

There are a lot of good things that have already come out of this- our family is so much closer, it made us realize how precious our short lives are, what is really important in life, and just how big our support system is. We have received insane amounts of notes, emails, text, all sorts of encouragement, but most of all prayer. I know we all know this, but let me say it again- prayer works. It works! Do we always get the answer we want? Maybe not, but boy does God hear us! Prayers for the doctor to figure out what was going on- BOOM! Answered! Prayers that the pain levels get under control- BOOM! Answered! Prayers for the family to be strong! BOOM! Answered! Okay, so I could go on and on, but I will just simply say the God I serve is so good.

He still has a long road ahead of him for sure so I ask for you to keep him in your thoughts and prayers!

So I was sorting through my inbox this afternoon and found an old email that makes me laugh, wanted to pass it along....


If I say "You're killing me, Smalls" and the person I'm talking to looks at me with confusion and doesn't know why I' ve called them Smalls, I question why I'm friends with them.

Why is "No." the abbreviation for number? There's not even an o in the word number.

Capri Suns never had enough juice in them.

Sandwiches always taste better when someone else makes them.

When I have to work late, the last thing I do is send a somewhat meaningless email to my boss, just so she knows I was in the office until at least 7:53.

Used coffee and soda cups are like mini-trash cans for your car's cupholders.

If filling up the garbage can in the kitchen as much as possible before taking out the trash was an Olympic sport, I'd be so dominant that people would accuse me of being underage..

In Home Depot today I saw a product called "Liquid Tape"...that sounds an awful lot like glue....

Why is it that what seems like a perfectly acceptable volume for your music when you get out of the car is entirely too loud when you get back in?

I'm happy with my non-iPhone, non-Blackberry cell phone. It makes calls when I press the green button and stops them when I press the red button, and I can even send text messages. This is probably already more functionality than I need.

The English language needs a word to describe the situation where two people start talking at the same time, then both stop at the same time, then both offer that the other go first at the same time.

I don't understand why everyone with superpowers is either a superhero or a supervillain. What about superlazy? If I was Spiderman, I would use my powers to get the remote. Oh, my stupid roommate left it next to the TV? THWAPP. If I was the Human Torch, I would never ever wait for my oven to get to 350. I would have Funfetti cake now.

I have the deepest desire for my turn signal to be perfectly in sync with the person in front of me.

Amazing weekend

So I know it's almost next weekend, but since our work week started Wednesday I'm just now getting around to posting. We had a just about perfect weekend. Wish I had a bunch of pics to share but I don't, we were too busy having fun to even remember our camera most of it! I won't bore you with the details, but in 4 days we spent the day on lake canyon on an amazing boat with friends, had a last minute 4th of July party, explored Austin (Brushy Creek trails are way cool!), ate lots of hot dogs and mexican food (ewww, not together), worked on the master bathroom together, took a few bike rides, went and saw Eclipse (Team Jacob!), I went shopping with a friend. We have had a really fun last couple of weeks and just makes me love summer even more!

I'm finding some of the most fun times in my life are not necessarily the big trips I plan months in advance (although we've had some good ones) but when we take time to just breath and enjoy the life we have been blessed with. Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend!

Justification for my awful taste in music

So, I am paying bills online, returning emails, catching up on my facebook, you know, all the important things ;) and decided to listen to the billboard top 100 songs of 1999 on my itunes. AMAZING! How could I of forgotten?
I wonder if everyone think the music that came out when they were in high school was some of the classics because of all the awesome teenage memories associated with it? I feel like in my case, absolutely- I know that Semisonic, Jewel, and the Goo Goo Dolls are not nearly as amazing as I think they are, and not bands that any future generations will know, but they will always hold a special place in my heart. For me Spice Girls will forever be associated with sleepover with my best friends, feeling as free as bird driving around listening to Beastie Boys with boys I had crushes on, and of course singing any and all things Back Street Boys with my best friend in her gold buick.

Okay, so sometimes I feel the need to explain some of Andy and I's millions of inside jokes we have so friends don't think we are completely insane. Recently I took a picture of Andy in what has come to be known as "the Andy pose" around some friends w/o explanation and realized that we (well, mostly him) look kinda crazy. So here's the story...


So here is one of Andy's senior pictures. I thought this picture was hilarious and teased him a little (okay, a lot) for having this less than manly pose. Was he offended or ashamed? No. Instead he decided to pose like this for other photos and it kinda became a thing....

Looking through these photos (and him not minding me posting them) just reinforces what a funny, sweet, quirky husband I have and how fun he makes my life. So there are certain things about working from home that makes me crazy- like being by myself all day every day and missing my super fun co-workers. But there most definitely a lot more pro's that make it a wonderful thing. We are having technical difficulties today and are not able to work at all, so I've spent the last 2 hours making a grocery list, organizing coupons, unloading dishwasher, folding laundry. What a glorious day! It's the little things like this that make me realize how crazy blessed I am. Hope you are having a great day too and enjoying God's little blessings that are sprinkled all over the place!
